“The Phoenix” by E’wao Kagoshima is an abstract piece, centers on the creature’s head, especially the watchful eye, the beak, crown, and claw. The fiery red intensity gives the bird its phoenix-like character, as well as its seeming rise out of black ashes. An interesting item of note is the fairly detailed US dollar coin seated beneath the bird, humorously misspelled and haphazardly printed with a backward “N.”
